I loved this article and thought I would share it with you all. There are so many well known traditions for the bride (old, new, borrowed, blue etc...) it's nice to see some traditions for the groom.
I think by now, we have all seen the grooms cake done at least at one wedding we have been to. I especially loved the one from our recent military wedding. It was a replica of the grooms tank.
Some of the other traditions are less well known-at least by me. The idea of burying the bottle of bourbon one month before the wedding is cute. Southern folklore says that if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the site where the bride and groom are to be married, then it won’t rain on their wedding day. According to many believers, this must be done exactly one month before the wedding, the bottle must be completely full and it must be buried upside down in order for it to keep the rain away. Rain or shine, the bottle should be dug up post-ceremony and enjoyed with the bridal party, making this a win-win tradition no matter the skies.
Handing these little traditions down through generations is important. It is a way of connecting to your culture, your history and knowing that your parents and grandparents did the same rituals during their wedding preparations creates a pretty special feeling.
